This is a truly stunning set from the unparallelled artisans at Coalport. Moulded in their signature shaped edge, these six plates are decorated lavishly with hand-tooled raised paste gilding in a neoclassical floral pattern. The unusual color scheme - dusky rose and shades of sage, are set off brilliantly by the wide gold bands that crisscross the densely patterned ground. What makes this set of particular interest is the device in the center. A dog, holding a rope over the phrase "Labore Non Astutia". This was the logo and personal sigil of one J.R. Crompton - a man whose company would one day be the world's largest supplier of tea bags and other paper sundries. The plates bear his family mark and monogrammed "SDC". A unusually fine example of Coalport's top of the range shaped plate. Plates are 9.5" in diameTer. The platters have been sold.
